Will 8awg wiring work for an Alpine MRP-500 Amp?
hey im getting a new amp, the Alpine MRP-500.. I already have my car wired with an 8awg wiring kit, should i upgrade to a 4awg? and will I need to buy a capacitor? ( i have a 87 mustang, stock alternator, but new $150 energizer batt that seems to hold a strong charge)
8 gauge will work. The MRP M500 power terminals are actually designed to accept 8 gauge, it’s a pain in the a** to try to fit 4 gauge in them and screw them down. If you plan on adding another amp to your system (mono amp and a 4 channel amp for example) in the future you will could upgrade to 4 gauge and use 8 gauge at a distribution block going to 2 amps, or just run a 2nd 8 gauge power wire from the battery to another amp. For now 8 gauge is fine for one amp. You probably won’t need a cap ( MRP-500 isn’t going to wreck your battery or alternator) but if you notice your lights dim when the bass hits you could add a 1/2 farad or 1 farad cap to the system.
