what size gun/scope for a bear hunt and has anybody ever eaten bear?
A 30.06 with 180 grain remington core lokt round, is what I used to kill 4 bears in the NC mountains I recommend that caliber and no less .
The largest I killed was over 300 pounds field dressed. I had a 3 by 9 scope set on 4 power . You dont need a high power scope as most shots on bear are 100 yards and under,
And yes the bears I killed I ate, and it was better than roast beef . A lot depends on what the bear eats , These bears lived off nuts, berries ,and natural food. I have heard bears from around dumpsters and places can have foul smelling fat on them .
Its important to field dress the bear immidiately. and when butchering the meat I like to remove excess fat
