How much would a good cam kit cost?
I recently posting a question about good exhaust with an old Chevy, and I was told a good cam kit would do the trick, I looked it up, learned more about it, but how much would a good kit cost? Its a 76 Chevy pickup, 350 5.7, long bed (Dont know if you need to know). I still don’t know much about it, but all I know is it does have headers on it at the minute. I want it to have a choppy sound, just like the sound of open headers. Thanks 
You can go with flat tap it hydraulic cam with no more than .400 lift at the valve for stock heads or you could go with new lifters and new valve springs or up to how much your new springs can handle. Those kits start at $100-$250 depending on the brand. If you really wanted to be high speed, you can go with roller cam and roller rockers which will make your engine spin up fast, enabling you to get into high horsepower faster. You can also advance your timing as far as it can go before you get the spark knock and jack up the rear end, put the engine in drive and up to 4500 rpm and listen for a knock (if you hear it that will be your spark knock) and back your timing off til it goes away- I don’t think yours has a knock sensor on it- put premium fuel in it, tighten your valves an extra 90 degrees to 180 degrees turn on your rocker arms with the motor running. This will allow your valves to stay open longer. But the longer the exhaust lift at the valve, the more choppy the sound will be. Good Luck!
