Why doesn’t Crayola include the Hex Triplet value on their crayons with the color name?
For example, they have crayons with colors like “carnation pink”, “goldenrod”, and “peach”. On the crayons, they should label them as “carnation pink (FFA6C9)”, “goldenrod (DAA520)”, and “peach (FFE5B4)”. The hex numbers refer to the 24-bit RGB color values used on web pages and other digital media.
The print would be too small, because they’d have to include CMY, HLS, and HPCL values as well as RGB. The worst problem is that people would be calling them for printer conversion charts so they could match printer and crayon colors with the Windows color model used for display devices.
I like the idea, though, even if it’s impractical. Who knows; if Crayola did that, maybe it’d let us special-order individual crayons…
