How to measure mega pixel on a digital still camera?
I have a KODAK C180 digital camera. The label on it shows 10.2 mega pixel. Is there any method to calculate still camera’s mega pixel or simply rely on the manufacture’s label.
You have to rely on the images and the manufacturer specs.
In the computer, you can see the size of an image for example. 640×480. Multiplicate both and you’ll get a number. That’s the millions of pixels.
MPx are an easy thing to see, because it’s the marketing THING for digital cameras. It’s the thing that you should worry less. Current cameras have enough resolution (how much do you print at bigger sizes than 8×10″?).
The most important factor in image quality along with optics is the sensor. Compact cameras have a tiny and cheap sensor cramped with pixels. THese are small and not very efficient capturing light. Bigger sensors (APS, FF in DSLRs) have bigger pixels thus better capacity for capturing the light signal. When there are low light conditions, all the camera does is AMPLIFICATE (high ISOS) what it could capture. Bigger sensors have a broather signal and lose less quality.
