There has been a huge shift in the quality of LG phones lately and this is clearly demonstrated by the new LG Optimus Black. Along with the Optimus 2X it is the phone that LG are placing high hopes on and one can clearly see why. The experiment of launching a Windows Phone from LG did not work out that well, so the company has once again came back to the territory that it is well known for, Android. It is not any old Android phone because it is one of the most feature rich Android phones to come in recent years. It is also one of the most powerful.
The powerful aspect of the phone is thanks to the dual core processor that it employs and it shows off the Android 2.2 operating system in just the way that it should be. Also, the 4 inch touch screen display plays a huge role in it because it uses the NOVA technology, which many claim to be the next biggest thing mobile phone screen technologies. This offers 700 “nits” of brightness making it brighter than the two screens that are currently considered to be the best in the market, the Retina Display of the iPhone 4 and the Super AMOLED screen found on the Samsung Galaxy S. This also makes it more visible in direct sunlight and it even runs on 50% less power than standard LCD screens.
This capacitive screen is also comes with 16 million colours and a very high resolution of 480 x 800. It is also coupled with an accelerometer for auto rotation of the Optimus 2.0 user interface.
The dual core processor in this new phone from LG is rated at 1 GHz and the power difference between this and the single core processor is quite obvious. It literally walks past the single core processor. Dual core Tegra 2 processors look set to become the standard for smartphones in 2011 and it is even a basic requirement for the upcoming Honeycomb version of Google Android.
The Optimus Black is also the first smartphone to feature a 2 megapixel front facing camera for video calling. While the megapixel count and quality of main rear facing cameras is steadily increasing in the phone market, with even low priced handsets featuring 5 megapixel cameras, front facing cameras have tended to be put on the backburner with 1 megapixel and VGA video being about the best you can hope for. This means that your friends can see you in the best possible manner when you are video chatting with them.
Some of the other features of the phone include all kinds of connectivity features that range from microUSB to Wi-Fi Direct and this means that you are never far from connecting to the PC or your audio systems in one way or the other. The phone’s pricing and launch date are yet to be confirmed by the company.
