This is a coat that is designed to keep pilots warm while they’re flying, so you know it’s going to be great at keeping you warm on the ground. It looks especially good in black leather or tan suede, but there’s a whole host of varieties you can choose from to get the one that’s right for you.
If the fleece lining of the aviator isn’t your thing, then the trench coat is a great alternative. It’s long – they can go to ankle-length if you want – so they’re brilliant at keeping you warm. They’re also versatile, coming in different fabrics such as leather and wool. They have a classic, tailored cut and tend to come in dark colors such as black and charcoal grey, giving them a timeless feel that means they’ll never go out of style and will last you for years.
Alternatively, you could go for the looser duffle coat, which is great for wearing over layers as its shape means you won’t feel constricted. The key feature of any duffle coat is its iconic toggle buttons made from either plastic or wood. Do up the coat to show off the buttons and keep off the wind, or if you’re warm, you could maybe leave it open to show off your whole ensemble. Again, dark colors are great here as it means you can wear your coat with anything.
Perhaps, though, you want more of a classic coat that you can tailor to your own size and shape, in which case, the military coat is great. From shorter jackets to floor length greatcoats, these jackets have been designed with practicality in mind, but they’re still very stylish and in demand. They’re great in dark colors such as black or grey and look particularly good worn over a suit to work or on smarter holiday occasions. A great buy.
If you’re not a fan of the traditional coat options, then another alternative is the denim jacket. These are great for layering over tees and sweaters, allowing you to dress appropriately for the weather without having to get all bundled up. You could go for the looser fitting jean jacket or perhaps the fitted, dark denim jacket that is a great alternative to a suit jacket, allowing you to achieve the smart-casual look instantly.
