Downgraded my Notebook Compaq CQ60 from Vista Home Premium to Windows Xp. Now the Sound Card Does not Work?
I have Downgraded my Notebook Compaq CQ60 from Vista Home Premium to Windows Xp. Now the Sound Card Does not Work. Can anyone tell me the steps involved in reconfiguiring the Sound Card? Already tried HP’s Site, but not much help.

According to HP, there are more than 300 products by the denomination of CQ60… meaning that is not your model number… that is the product series, and there is a more specific model number to your laptop… most likely on a white product tag on the bottom that is an inch high, and two inches wide.. the model number would be in the last row of information, to the right.
An any rate, since you have the actual laptop, you should visit http://support.hp.com and either put in the REAL model number, or let HP do the autodetection, and then download the XP drivers for your sound card… *if* there are even XP drivers. You see, HP/Compaq might not support XP on that model laptop anymore, meaning that they might not provide the software that you need to make your sound card work with XP, for that particular model laptop. This is something you could and should have discovered BEFORE you did the downgrade… but 20/20 hindsight is a wonderful thing. SO what can you do now? Well, you can go to the download page for the Vista drivers, see the company who makes the soundcard (realtek maybe) then visit the webpage of the manufacturer, and download the XP drivers for what *might* be your soundcard.
Or… reinstall Vista
