Testing the Cuddeback Infrared Digital Scouting Camera
The model that I am testing is the Cuddeback NoFlash X2 Trail Camera. Cuddeback has a reputation of making quality scouting cameras and this unit is no exception. It brings with it some new features and innovations that will make it even more useful and fun to use than previous versions.
The Cuddeback NoFlash X2 Trail Camera is actually a dual camera. This means that you can get the best quality of images whether you are shooting at night or during the day. Daytime images get 5.0 mega pixels of resolution. If you are familiar with this data you will know that this will give you excellent quality daytime images, suitable for viewing or printing even if you want to blow up the image or do a cropped close-up of the subject. For nighttime photos, the NoFlash actually uses an infrared flash and gives you 1.3 megapixels of resolution. With this combination you will see the animals you are tracking clearly whenever they come across the infrared sensor beam. The infrared flash means that you will not spook the animals and will therefore get more pictures and it will be more likely that the animals stay in that location. It also means that the camera is more difficult to spot for those that would want to make off with your equipment.
Other Advantages of the Cuddeback NoFlash X2
It is important to have excellent trigger speed when you are capturing images of wildlife. The family will wait as your camera gets ready to shoot but the animals in the wild are not that cooperative. The Cuddeback NoFlash X2 boasts a trigger speed twice as fast as its predecessors. Well under a second between the triggering of the infrared sensor and the capturing of an image means that you will get more shots and better shots.
This trail camera comes with the Genius Mounting system that gives you the versatility of easy, quick mounting and the ability to switch out your batteries without having to take the camera down from the tree. I am guessing that whoever was behind the innovations in this camera has done some photography of their own, and realized what a pain it is to take your equipment down just to refresh the batteries. It also means that you will leave less of your own scent on the unit and the area which can scare away wildlife as well.
The camera takes excellent quality still photographs, but it also has the ability to take video. The video clips offer 18 frame-per-second quality so they aren’t choppy or broken up. This is a nice feature if you really want to get the best information possible about your subject.
The batteries required are four D cells, and the camera gets plenty of life out of them, especially due to the infrared flash. The camera comes with time lapse mode, sensitivity adjustment and an intuitive keypad for easy use. If you want a camera that can give you great images, is simple to use and will last, then the Cuddeback NoFlash X2 Trail Camera will be a welcome addition to your equipment.
