If gold is the more precious metal, why is silver used to denote the higher rank for military insignia?
2nd Lieutenant GOld, 1st Lieutenant, Silver, Major is Gold, after that it’s all silver. I’m sure it has nothign to do with the “market value” of the metals themselves as opposed to eons of tradition. These days it is probably even a better thing since silver makes your rank shiny and apparently many are attracted to “bling.”
