best mac wireless security setup to keep spying ex-husband out?
I’ve already been wiped out and am tired of audio/video files and disk images with my newest files being viewed and stored remotely. It’s in my phones, computers, maybe even my DVR’s. I think I have it cleaned and I’m fixing permissions somewhere again and see the remote manager in my logs.
I strongly suspect paranoia is the main mechanism at work here, but in the event you’re right ( You’re not paranoid if they’re really after you) here’s an answer.
Change the WEP key on your router and reconfigure your local connection to issue the new key. If you have WEP security on your wireless connection it is secure. If someone is accessing information on your machine it is not through that connection. It would have to be some kind of keystroke logger or remote viewer… or he has (or can guess) your passwords.
Don’t try to fix the existing users. Create a new admin user (don’t use your cat’s name as the password) and blow all of the others away.
Make sure your local machine is invisible to the outside world by having it pick up a DHCP private address, and limiting port forwarding to only the specific ports you want open. Your machine should not be the DMZ machine for the network. That makes it “visible” to port scanners.
