The Beatles in Stereo on USB
About the only band in the world not to release their music on iTunes are The Beatles. I’m pretty sure they are the only band that has sold millions of albums that isn’t included on iTunes. When the news came that in December of this year The Beatles music was finally coming out as mp3s I think most people probably guessed that it meant that they were going to be sold as downloads but that’s not the case, instead they have gone another way: The Beatles USB Flash Drive.
The Beatles “Apple” USB flash drive includes The Beatles Stereo Box Set except of course in a much different format than 16 CDs and 1 DVD. This Beatles USB memory stick that you can hold in your hand contains all of the same music and all of the same visual elements as the much larger box set.
The USB contains all of the Beatles stereo remasters in that box set twice because it holds 320kbps mp3s and 44.1kHz/24bit FLAC files. I am sure you know about mp3s (and 320 mp3s are the highest quality that mp3s come in) but what about the 24bit FLAC files, what does that mean? Simply put FLAC files are “lossless” and this means they do not have any loss of sound quality like mp3s do. And since they are 24bit instead of the 16 bit files that are on compact discs, they are of higher quality than CD.
What this means is that The Beatles USB contains the highest quality version of The Beatles stereo remasters! Of course, that might change in the future if they decide to release these remasters on Blu-Ray or DVD but for now this is the audiophile holy grail when it comes to The Beatles stereo remasters.
What about the original mono mixes? Unfortunately these are not included on this USB flash drive. You still must buy The Beatles in Mono CD Set to hear the mono mixes.
