What memory card is comparable to Canon Rebel XSi SLR camera?
And also what size is good for about 1000 pictures?
Any SD or SDHC memory card is compatible. SDHC cards are available in different speed classes (2, 4, 6 and now, 10).
For the XSi (450D) I highly recommend you get a fast Class 4 card or preferably a Class 6 card. But, not all cards of the same speed class are the same speed. Some are slower.
I use the very popular and reliable, Sandisk Extreme III 20MB/sec (Class 6) for my 450D and it’s more than fast enough for shooting continuous RAW+Jpegs, which are around 20MB each in size. My 8GB card allows almost 400 images.
If you’re only shooting Jpegs…a 4GB SDHC card should be plenty. You’ll be able to shoot approx. 460 large/Fine Jpegs per 2 GB. For Jpegs only, I recommend the Sandisk Ultra II SDHC (15MB/sec), which should be more than fast enough.
Look in your Instruction Manual, page 64. It shows you how many images you will be able to shoot. Make sure you Format your new card before you use it the first time…and also format it again after transferring your images to your computer. Formatting deletes ALL files and keeps the card in good order.
